Let Love Grow.
29th JANUARY, 2021
I continue to pray for your love to grow and increase beyond measure, bringing you into the rich revelation of spiritual insight in all things [Php 1:9 TPT].
If you want to be good at something or grow in a particular field and you are not practising, growth is almost impossible. We are children of God, and He is a God of love. We definitely cannot grow in love if we aren’t practising love.
No believer receives salvation and is required to sit in isolation and do nothing. We have a mandate; we have responsibilities to fulfil, and growth is also expected of us. God has planted His seed (Spirit) in us, and He expects to see growth and fruits of love.
Serving God rewards us by making us become people of love. Yes, this is true because love is the culture of the kingdom. We grow in love when an area (values, principles, habits) we’re growing in is challenged and we overcome the challenge. For example, you can only say you’re growing in tolerance if a difficult person is brought your way and you’re able to walk in self-control. You can only say you’re growing in kindness when you have the chance to be selfish but you refuse to take it.
The only way these challenging, albeit life-changing moments come our way is when we are actively involved with people. Hiding or shying away, will minimize your contact with people and minimize your chances to grow in love. Serving God puts you at the forefront of working with people.
Whether you’re preaching, singing, cleaning chairs, serving food, so far as you’re doing it for God, it’s service and you will definitely have to work with people. The next time you’re in a tricky situation, or you’re working with someone who isn’t making things too easy for you, instead of getting angry and grumbling, take a step back, breathe in and ask yourself what God is trying to grow in you because of this situation. It may be patience or self-control. These are the components of love as found in 1st Corinthians 13. And the more you get into service, the more you grow in love and the more you become like Christ.
This is our utmost purpose as believers; to become more like Christ and less of ourselves.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love that is my heart. Please help me to grow and increase beyond measure, in love, even as it brings me into the rich revelation of spiritual insight in all things. Amen.
