Love for God

True love for God means obeying his commands, and his commands don’t weigh us down as heavy burdens. 1 John 5:3 TPT

A great man of God once said, “The Lord’s commandments are not to destroy us or to make us unhappy. In all truth, if we are to sit and ponder over them, we’ll realise they’re all for our own good.” If you can imagine good things for yourself, what of the One who allowed His Son to die for your redemption, whiles you were still undeserving of it. Do you sincerely think God wants you to be miserable?

There has always been and will always be a way that seems right unto us as humans, but the end thereof is death. It is in our nature to want to steer affairs, and live as we please. Where has that ever led us? Mostly, we find out that if we had just heeded the Lord’s voice and word, there are certain kinds of prayers for mercy and deliverance we won’t have to pray. As believers, this becomes a challenge when the Lord, who ought to have preeminence in all things, wants us to go right, but we want to go left. More often than not, there is the challenge of knowing what the Lord wants, and wanting to go the Lord’s way, but ending up choosing the opposite.

The Lord tells us in Ezekiel 36: 26–27, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep my commandments and do them.” The Lord knows the challenges we face in obedience. His promise to the Israelites is one He made unto us too. Not only have we received a new heart in Christ, but He has given us a heart that seeks to honour Him, and His Holy Spirit, who makes it possible for us to walk in His statutes.

As children of the Kingdom, it is easier to obey the Lord. We just need to walk in that which has been made available to us.

Lord, You are the One who gives grace both to will and to do of Your good pleasure. Help me walk in this grace to honour You always, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
