Love the Lord [Soul]
18th FEBRUARY, 2021
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” [Mark 12:30-31 NKJV]
We have looked at how to love the Lord with all our hearts, now we are going to learn more about loving the Lord with all our souls. There is in every human being a burning need for God. It is our souls’ search for the divine.
As Blaise Pascal said in 1670, “What else does this craving, and this helplessness, proclaim but that there was once in man a true happiness, of which all that now remains is the empty print and trace? This he tries in vain to fill with everything around him, seeking in things that are not there the help he cannot find in those that are, though none can help, since this infinite abyss can be filled only with an infinite and immutable object; in other words by God Himself.”
As much as we try to fill this God-sized hole in our souls with other things, it will not suffice. However, fulfilling purpose, enriching our relationship with Him and loving others, goes a long way to fill that emptiness within us.
How do we practically do these things? How do we fulfil purpose? Service! Service! Service! Purpose will not find you in a void. Even the devil does not abide in idle hands. He will find useless work for you. Go and serve in the house of the Lord. Serve His people. Like Christ said to Peter, if you love Him, feed His sheep. In the midst of that, you will discover your purpose, follow it ardently. Do not look to the left or to the right.
Show love to God by enriching your relationship with Him; talk to Him in prayer about everything, read His Word, abide by His laws and when you fill your soul with these things, you will find that it is not difficult to extend grace and love to your neighbour. All of these will speak of your love for God. Love Him with all your soul.
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me unconditionally. Please help me build a relationship with You and teach me to love You with all that is within me. In Jesus name, Amen.
