Made Right for Victory

For He made Him Who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. [2 Corinthians 5:21 AFV]
The victory of our Christian faith can pretty much be summed up by the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. When Jesus died in our stead and paid for the price for our sins, He made available a righteousness no amount of good works could ever merit. This righteousness is not about being good or morally upright; it is about being in good standing with God.
The Bible tells us that even our best acts of righteousness are like filthy rags before our righteous God. Therefore, we can never measure up to God’s standard of righteousness, no matter how hard we try. But God in His wisdom sent His Son, who was without sin, to take up our sins and crucify them to a bloody cross. By that act of sacrifice, He gave us His righteousness.
This simply means that we have been clothed in Christ’s righteousness which positions us in a place of advantage over the enemy and his cohorts. To be righteous before God is to be able to approach His throne of grace with boldness and confidence. We are at peace because of our righteous state, given to us by Jesus, which also puts us in right standing with God. We no longer have to be afraid of the accuser of the brethren who is Satan, because Christ has clothed us with His perfect righteousness.
By dying for us, Christ broke the power the enemy wielded over us, which was to keep us in the bondage of guilt and fear because of our sins.
We must walk with our heads high in confidence because the price of our sins has been paid for by Christ at a very high cost. We must, however, note that this is not a licence to indulge our flesh because our lives must reflect the righteousness we have received from Christ. The enemy has no power over us and sin has no power over us.
In Christ, we have become the righteousness of God. That is a victory worth celebrating!
Dear Lord, please help me to be conscious of the fact that I have been clothed with the righteousness of Christ. Thank You that You call me righteous, and I can always approach Your throne in confidence. Amen.
