O City of God!
2nd DECEMBER 2022
Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God. — Selah [pause, and calmly realize what that means]! Psalms 87:3 AMPC
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Have you ever wondered why God likens you to a city? If not, please take a moment and consider it. A city does not build itself, and some did not even start off with a plan to be one. Nevertheless, through various factors such as trade, education, industrialisation, commercialisation and migration, towns and even villages have grown to become cities.
When God says a city set on a hill can not be hidden, it reveals that this city was planned to be on a hill. This is accurate with God’s word throughout the Bible. Consider Luke 14: 28 which says, For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? The reason glorious things are spoken of you, city of God, is the fact that He is intentional about what He is building and developing, every detail is accounted for, and He has all it takes to finish the job.
Do not lose your hope in God, no matter how bleak things may have looked for you this year, remember, the year is not done. Likewise, if the year has been all you imagined and even more, do not cast your confidence away from God, do not forget your God. He is building, He is designing, He is working out all things for your good — for the praise of His name. The verdict of God on your life is that glorious things are spoken of you; if you are not hearing them now, know that you are still under construction. It is a process.
God is building you on a solid rock, a hill, that can without stand the storms of life. From afar, people will see you and give Him glory. God does not abandon His work, He finishes before He begins. Do all you can to keep looking up to Him, pray, and ask His Spirit to help you through the hard times. He won't let you deal with that which you cannot bear.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for being a good good father. Thank You that You are always working on us to be Your masterpiece, a work of art that You delight in. Please help us to keep looking to You through it all, as You progressively transform our lives to be just as You want it to be, Amen.
