Overflowing Its Banks

You’re kind and tenderhearted to those who don’t deserve it and very patient with people who fail you. Your love is like a flooding river overflowing its banks with kindness. Psalms 145:8 TPT
This verse reminds us of the incredible patience and love that God has for each one of us, despite our failures and shortcomings. As human beings, we are all prone to making mistakes and falling short of God’s expectations. We may try to do the right thing, but often our own selfishness and pride get in the way. We may even turn our backs on God and walk away from Him, thinking that He will not forgive us or love us any more.
However, God is always waiting for us with open arms, ready to forgive and restore us. He is patient with us, even when we are not patient with ourselves or with others. He is slow to anger and abounds in faithful love. In fact, the Bible tells us that God’s love for us is so great that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we can receive God’s forgiveness and be made right with Him.
He is love, and He is patient. So if you find yourself feeling guilty or ashamed of your past mistakes and failures, know that God is waiting for you with open arms. He is ready to forgive and restore you, and He will do so with patience and love. He does not lash out in anger at the slightest provocation, but instead, He is slow to anger and is always ready to forgive. This is evident in the many examples throughout the Bible of God’s willingness to forgive, even when His people have disobeyed and gone astray.
God’s love is like a flooding river, in that it is always flowing, always active and always reaching out to others. God’s love is not something that we can just receive and keep to ourselves, but it is something that we are called to share with others. His love overflows its banks/barriers [think about this for a while]. This is the love that Jesus demonstrated when he laid down his life for us on the cross. And it is the love that we are called to have for our brothers and sisters in the faith [1 John 3:16].
Heavenly Father, thank You for being kind and tender-hearted towards me. Thank You for being very patient with me, and being slow to anger. Thank You for allowing me room to repent, and for receiving me in Your love, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
