Pour Your Heart Out
20th MAY 2022
“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” Psalms 62:8 NIV
We go through many changes, planned and unplanned, in the course of our life. Often times unplanned change can be unsettling and even when you plan towards it, change can be very frustrating.
If that were all that weighs on us, we would find a way to manage it. The reality is we deal with a myriad of conflicting, annoying, frustrating, and depressing… in fact, the adjectives are endless. The issues of life are many and varied, and our responses to these issues run the whole gamut of human emotions.
For us, in Christ, this bleak reality should not be an impediment to our joy or to our peace which we are afforded in Christ. For we have a solace, far greater than any, the world can seek to provide. We have a Father who sits at attention to listen to our every rant, every woe and every fear.
To borrow the lyrics of a popular Christian song, ‘when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock, that is higher than I.’ The verse for today invites us to pour out our hearts to God, to trust in Him, for He is our refuge.
Do well to remember, however, that we need God both in the dark and in the light. Just as His light shines in dark places and illuminates the way for us, He is present also along the lit path. As we commune with Him and grow in intimacy with Him, we shine brighter and brighter.
So when your heart is overwhelmed with happiness and joy, when the change coming your way is a spectacular one you’ve prayed for so long, let us remember that our Father sits at attention to listen to every laugh, every happy recounting of events and every joy.
Pour your heart out. Trust Him. He is your refuge.
Heavenly Father, thank You, that as I place my trust in You, You never disappoint me. As I present my heart to You, with all the weight it bears, thank You for being my refuge and peace, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
