Pray and Ask God
17th JUNE 2021
Do not ·worry [be anxious] about anything, but pray and ·ask God for everything you need [or make your requests known to God], always giving thanks. Philippians 4:6 EXB
Consider what a soldier in the field who is deep behind enemy lines and hasn’t made contact with his or her commanding base is going through. A lack of communication will cause a lot of worries; what are the enemy’s tactics?; is help on the way?; what is the best mode of engagement?; and so on. However, if the soldier is in constant communication with the base and receives all necessary information and commands, knowing that his/her commander’s pedigree will always triumph over the enemy, he/she will remain extremely confident even behind enemy lines.
Anxiety is the expression of intense worry and fear about the outcome of an uncertain situation. We are called to a life of unwavering faith in the LORD as believers. Our complete trust must be placed in none other than the LORD. Psalms 136 gives us good reasons to rely on and trust in the LORD; His unfailing love endures forever [please read the chapter.] As we can see from 1 John 1:5 and James 1:17, the LORD is not playing games with you; He has no ulterior motive to disappoint you.
If this is our GOD, why do we harbour fear in our hearts? Anxiety implies a lack of faith in God’s ability to keep His word and fulfil His promises. It’s the equivalent of a vote of no confidence in Him.
To be anxious is to confess to the LORD that you could have handled the situation better if you were in His shoes — Pastor Elton.
Instead of worrying, remember what Psalms 55:22 says: “Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never allow the righteous to be moved.” Maintain constant communication with the LORD and be aware of His will for you. God has already worked things out for your good, so even when you face adversity, offer your petitions to the LORD in a spirit of thanksgiving, as our verse for today suggests.
Forgive me, Heavenly Father, for every time I have been anxious about anything in my life. Please grant me a deep conviction of Your faithfulness to me as Your word has come to me today, even as I make my supplications known to You in Jesus’ name, Amen.
