Pray for God’s Vision

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me … and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart., [Jeremiah 29:11–13 NIV].

This is one of the “popular” verses of scripture which talks about the intentions of God for His people. The King James Version renders the word ‘plans’ as ‘thoughts’, which is translated from the Hebrew word machashabah which can also mean purposes or imaginations. To imagine is to see something with the mind’s eye, and that’s vision. In other words, the opening text can also be interpreted to mean that God has his own vision, thoughts or plans for us.

This prophetic message was first delivered to God’s people who were in exile in Babylon at the time. They were being encouraged to shift their attention from their present condition to the word of the Lord as their source of hope. What this means for Christians is that, no matter what our present circumstances are, we can also trust in God’s intention or vision for us, because it is always good and will bring us to an expected end.

The all-important question then to ask should be; how can I know the vision God has for me? Matthew 7:7 reveals that when we ask God about something, He will answer us. By humbly asking in prayer, we can find out what God’s vision for us is. The good news here is that, prayer not only enables us to discover what the plans, thoughts or intentions of God for us are, but it also activates the power (ability and might) needed for the accomplishment of the same. Prayer is important for both knowing and doing the will of God.

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for revealing Your vision to me even as I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
