Pray for Others

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” James 5:16 NLT.

Better than a listening ear is a praying mouth. Far better than confessing our sins to each other, is the ability to pray for each other and the awareness of how much of a positive impact this has. Do you know how people have the tendency to be more excited when a pastor, bishop, or branch presidents pray for them? Well, the good news is, these are not the only people whose prayer produces wonderful results! Any righteous member of the spiritual family you belong to (yes, including you), can pray for the other. A sister for a brother, a mother for a son, a father for a daughter and so on and so forth.

The Bible encourages us to and outlines the benefits of doing so; “…that you may be healed.” Healed from your familiarity, healed from your critical spirit, healed from your self-centredness, your distrust, and any other physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological ailments.

Praying for each other isn’t a superficial thing. It requires passion, earnestness, consistency, and a righteous heart. Have you ever prayed for yourself, as though your life depends on it? Well, God calls us to do the same and more for each other. Remember the rule in Mathematics concerning fractions, which states that whatever you do to the numerator, you do to the denominator. This applies where loving others as ourselves is concerned. If you love yourself so much, that you spend a lot of time in prayer asking God for your needs, you must do the same for your neighbour. You pray for whom you love, and you love whom you pray for. Else, why would Jesus call us to pray for our enemies?

“Pray passionately in the Spirit, as you constantly intercede with every form of prayer at all times. Pray the blessings of God upon all his believers.” Ephesians 6:18 TPT.

Some schools of thought suggest that the sixth piece of God’s armour is prayer. This way, we are each fighting to ward off unseen attacks against each other. Are you struggling to pray for your neighbour/family member (both spiritual and biological)? Then pray even harder because the solution for the inability to pray is more prayer! After all, the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

Thank You, Father, that I, who have been made righteous in Christ, I am praying for my neighbours family with all earnestness and passion like my life depends on it. Amen.
