Reject Worldly Wisdom

Your plans will fall apart right in front of you if you fail to get good advice. But if you first seek out multiple counselors, you’ll watch your plans succeed. [Proverbs 15:22 TPT]

The advice the scripture gives here refers to Godly counsel which is the Word of God. Every situation we encounter requires a scripture because He foresaw what is yet to come even before we caught the thought. It is without a doubt that we require counsel—the wisdom of God to go through the changing seasons and situations life throws at us. The scripture says not to reject the wisdom of God, that means we must reject that of the world in order to operate in His. The absence of one is the presence of the other. Do not attribute vagueness to the Word of God for the source of His wisdom is straight to the point and it is truth. Worldly wisdom is purely sensual and demonic.

To be able to discern is to know what is in accordance with the Word of God. It takes God’s wisdom to recognize demonic counsel. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses above therefore we ought to learn how to not entangle ourselves with sin and not be unequally yoked with non-believers as the word of God says. What a person truly is, is depicted by how much of the truth (the Word of God) he knows. His character is a reflection of who he follows and whose instructions he abides. When your mind is already made up, a piece of advice either falls on deaf ears or becomes nothing but a confirmation of your foolishness as the word of God puts it.

For a heart that knows not the difference between wise counsel and a foolish one, the counsel of Jonadab seemed wise to the ears of Amnon (2 Samuel 3). What to Amnon seemed profound like a piece of good advice from his friend, led to destruction which affected not only the parties involved but nearly caused the nation of the Lord. Such men do not have the fear of God in them, they live on their intellect. They do what is pleasing to them. To reject worldly wisdom is by not yoking yourself with these proud men, scornful and mockers whose ways seem righteous only in their eyes; the desperately wicked hearts who seem to have no limit to blot out whatever stands in their way.

The greatest achievement to chase is to have His Word engraved on your heart that you shall not fall prey to the wicked ways of man; for the heart of man is desperately wicked. We are quick to put our hope in and submit to their ways, so we blindly pick role models. The real role model is God, the rest are striving clones or even worse, impersonators.

Heavenly Father, may I know when a counsel is worldly and not of You. In Jesus’ name.
