Satisfied to Praise
18th AUGUST 2022
[But] ·Serving God [Godliness; Piety] does ·make us very rich [bring great profit], ·if we are satisfied with what we have [when accompanied by contentment]. [1 Timothy 6:6 EXB]
Being content means being happy, pleased, and satisfied with one’s situation. According to the Bible, living a Godly life will only benefit us if we are content with what we have. When we are constantly thinking about all the things we do not have or could have, we lose our joy and gratitude.
We often believe that we can only praise God when we have plenty, but 1 Timothy 6:8 says, “But if we have food and clothing, with these, we will be content” [AMP]. Food and clothing are the most basic of our needs and desires, yet the Bible instructs us to be content with these.
Contentment leads to gratitude, and gratitude leads to praise. We can’t praise God if we’re not happy (grateful) with what we have. According to the lyrics of the popular hymn “Count your blessings,”
When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Our God is good and generous; He bestows wonderful gifts on all of His children. Let us stop peering into other people’s gift pots. May we remember to thank God for our many blessings on a daily basis.
Dear Father, thank You for the many blessings You have lavished on me. May I always sing Your praises with a content heart.
