Set Your Affection Right

30th JANUARY 2023

Christ for Youth International

Like any good shepherd, John warns us against the dangers of loving the world and its temporary pleasures. He reminds us that anything in the world, such as the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not from the Father but from the world. The world and its temptations may seem alluring, but it is essential for us to remember that it is passing away, and that true happiness and fulfilment can only be found in doing the will of God.

John’s message is a reminder that as Christians, we must live in a way that reflects our love for God and not for the things of the world. We must guard our hearts against the desires that lead us away from God, and instead, strive to live in obedience to His will. This means that we must be vigilant in our thoughts, words, and actions, always keeping in mind that our ultimate goal is to please God and to bring glory to His name.

We will experience peace and joy that cannot be found anywhere else when we choose to love God over the world.

The challenge for us today is to recognise the difference between loving God and loving the world. The world is full of distractions that can lead us astray, but we must be mindful of what we allow into our hearts and minds. We must make the deliberate choice to love God above all else and to resist the temptations of the world.

Loving God means putting Him first in all things, regardless of the cost. It means living a life of sacrifice, self-denial, and service to others. It means being willing to let go of our own desires and wants in order to follow Him. Thus, you cannot follow the path of God and that of the world simultaneously; you do not have four legs, and even if you did, the paths are too wide apart for you to walk both.
