The Goodness of Our King
12th AUGUST 2020
The Lord is my strength and my song; he has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise him — my father’s God, and I will exalt him! [Exodus 15:2 NLT]
‘Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done’. These lyrics from a popular Christian hymn, remind us to count all that the Lord has done for us.
For in recounting the many ways that God has blessed us, we often cannot help but begin to praise Him and appreciate all that we have.
The reason we ought to consciously count our blessings is because more often than not we tend to forget or ignore the numerous blessings we receive daily. However, when we, like Moses and the Israelites, look upon the blessings and miracles that God has performed on our behalf, our praise for God flows unimpeded.
Take time today, and cast your mind to all the difficult moments in your life. All the times of stress, bleakness, frustration and grief. See how far God has brought you. In fact, you need not look so far. Reflect on today’s happenings and all the blessings you have already, chief among them, your very life.
But do not end with yourself today, share this message with another, that their hearts may also be uplifted in praise. And if words fail you, simply sing to them; ‘Count your many blessings and see what God has done’.
Dear Father, help me to count my blessings so that I do not miss the numerous opportunities to praise You.
