“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has chosen Me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed and announce that the time has come when the Lord will save His people.” [Luke 4:18 — 19 NLT]

Are you poor? Are you bound? Are you blind? Are you oppressed? Do you need saving? Then this Good News is truly good news to you also. The truth of the matter is, at a point, we all were poor, bound, blind and in need of saving. Romans 3:23 explains in clear words, that ‘all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God’. Psalms 14:3 also lays more emphasis on our state.

‘The poor’’ is not only talking about lacking material wealth, it encompasses even greater than that. The common interpretation of that word implied the state of the Israelites in captivity. That tells the state of every man who does not have a relationship with God through Christ. The lost are bound and are continually oppressed by the devil. But God gave us a Way out of that shameful state — Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Paul uses a beautiful expression for the Good News of Christ [Romans 1:16]; he says it is ‘the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes…’!

The Good News for which you and I are saved is that God imputed our sins, yours and mine, on His Son Jesus Christ. Not just our sins, but our punishment for those same sins were all put on Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 and 1 Peter 2:24 — 25 tells us exactly what this Good News of Jesus is: He took our place of sin, condemnation, eternal damnation, on the cross, and gave us His place of righteousness, justification and every good thing. The Gospel saves, and it is here for each and every one of us. Possibly the most quoted Scripture verse tells us of this Good News, that ‘God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.’ If you have not read the next verse, it says that God sent His Son not to condemn the world (you inclusive), rather, by Christ Jesus the whole world might be saved.

The Good News is for you, lovely brother or sister. Your situation is not too big for Jesus to save you. If only you will spend some time in His Word, you will find that His saving you is so great! The one who comes into contact with the Gospel, and thereafter receives the Gospel as it is — the Good News — experiences all that God promises to those who believe in His Son. The Gospel frees us, the Gospel brings light to our lives, the Gospel keeps us from condemnation, the Gospel saves!

You are loved by God and by His sole decision, He decided to come save you. By your sole decision, too, you have to choose to accept and submit to the truth of His Word that He came so you may have life and have it more abundantly.

PRAYER: Thank You, Jesus Christ for Your Gospel, which is the power of God that saves me. I am amazed that You thought of me so much that You laid down Your life so I might have life in You. Help me, Lord, proclaim this Good News to other people who have not yet experienced Your saving grace! In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
