The Indwelling Spirit
1st SEPTEMBER 2020
“In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His Glory.” [Ephesians 1:13–14 NKJV]
God has always desired for His people to stay in and be led by His presence. Moses led the Israelites from Egypt to the promised land relying solely on God’s presence. In the same way, we also must depend solely on God’s presence for guidance and our ultimate success.
When anyone accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, there is a total regeneration of the human spirit which we call the ‘New birth’ or ‘spiritual rebirth’. Anyone that undergoes this spiritual rebirth also has the Holy Spirit dwelling in that person which is the seal of one’s salvation.
Our new birth gives us the privilege of hosting God’s presence. The Bible actually tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:19 that our bodies are God’s temples in which He dwells. Since the Holy Spirit dwells in us, we must live with that consciousness of His presence in us and give reverence to Him always.
The purpose of the Holy Spirit in us is to make us Christ-like.
We are created to be dependent on God no matter how much we know or how long we have walked with the Lord. The journey of Christlikeness is possible when we walk closely with the Spirit and depend on Him constantly. The greater one who lives in us empowers us to overcome every challenge as we keep growing to conform to the image of Christ.
Thank You, Holy Spirit, that You have made my body Your temple. I pray that as I walk with You daily, I will continue to grow in Christlikeness. Amen.
