“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” [Luke 19:10 NIV]

The parables Jesus told often highlighted God’s immense love and relentless pursuit of those who are lost. One such parable is the story of the lost sheep, where Jesus illustrates the joy in heaven over one sinner who repents.

Looking at it from God’s kind of pursuit, the shepherd’s willingness to leave the ninety-nine sheep to find the one that is lost demonstrates relentlessness for each individual. God values every single soul and does not want any to be lost.

When the shepherd finds the lost sheep, he rejoices greatly and invites his friends and neighbours to celebrate with him. The same imagery is reflected in heaven when a sinner repents and is restored to fellowship with God.

As followers of Christ, we are called to participate in this mission of seeking and saving the lost. This involves reaching out with compassion and love, sharing the gospel, and being light to the world. Our efforts, guided by the Holy Spirit, can lead others to the joy of knowing Christ. The celebration of the found sheep encourages us to rejoice in the redemption of others.

We should celebrate and support each step someone takes towards faith, understanding the profound significance of their journey from being lost to being found.

Heavenly Father, thank You for seeking me and bringing me back into Your fold when I was lost. Give me a heart that reflects Your love and compassion for the lost. Help me to be an instrument of Your grace, sharing the message of salvation with those who have not yet experienced Your love. Fill me with joy as I witness the transformation and redemption of those who come to know You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
