The Lord is Close
14th JUNE 2022
The Lord is close [near] to everyone who prays to [calls on] him, to all who truly pray to him [call on him in truth/faithfulness]. Psalm 145:18 EXB
It can feel like God is far away at times, but this scripture clearly states that He is near to those who call on Him. It does, however, necessitate some effort on our part. Likewise, it takes our desire, and our yearning for Him, and we as humans cannot perfect the art of finding God. He manifests Himself to us. He directs our path to Himself and begins the journey to meet us as we move towards Him.
Prayer is a two-way street between God and man. At least, that’s what it’s meant to be. We usually rush through a few minutes of prayer before rushing off to work, school, or whatever we have planned for the day without even pausing to hear from God Himself. These quick microwave prayers are what we cling to until trouble strikes, and then you’ll see a believer labouring in prayer for about an hour for a breakthrough.
When there is a breakthrough, the microwave prayers follow. That’s not to say that short, quick prayers are bad; after all, if you keep praying without ceasing, some short prayers will undoubtedly pass through your lips as you walk from your office to your car or from one room to the next. However, the relationship must first be established. God is a person who desires a relationship with you.
Allow time for Him. Consciously commit everything you do in a day to His care. The more you seek Him in prayer, the more easily you will find Him. For the word of God says He is near to all who truly call on Him. Speak to God today. Commit your day to Him right now, after reading this devotional, and ask Him to remind you of His presence. It will be easier to communicate with God if you remember He is with you throughout the day. Let us truly seek the Lord; He longs for a relationship with you. He wants you to get to know Him because He already knows and loves us.
Thank You for Your desire to have a close relationship with me through prayer, Father. Please help me to understand that prayer is more than just talking to You; it is a time to commune with You in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
