Unashamed of the Gospel

20th OCTOBER 2020

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God’s power working unto salvation [for deliverance from eternal death] to everyone who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance, to the Jew first and also to the Greek, [Romans 1:16 AMPC]

It is no secret amongst believers that some of us who confess the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ are ashamed to preach the gospel. This shame is not from a heart that wants to disassociate itself from the message, but rather, a feeling of being uncomfortable or uncertain of how the message will be received. This is a challenge that needs to be resolved.

We have to understand that the power of God that brings salvation is the gospel. It is as simple as that. Without the gospel, there is no power that can save any man. We cannot worship, praise and even pray people into salvation without the power of the gospel. The Bible says, “how will they hear if no one preaches?”

The power of the gospel works in the heart of the person that believes. This part of believing is not our responsibility, but rather that of the Holy Spirit, therefore, we should not assume a task that is not allocated to us. When we assume that position, we are likely to feel ashamed because we will be counting on ourselves to see the person believe.

The verse says “both to the Jew first, and to the Greek,” this means that the people we know and are comfortable with, and the people we do not know and are uncomfortable with — it is the same gospel that will save them all.

It is our responsibility to preach the gospel. It is the responsibility of the Holy Spirit to convict the hearts of the people to believe.

Let us play our roles in confidence and allow the Holy Spirit to have His way even as we pray for the people we share the message with.

Dear Father, please remind me at all times that my role is to preach the gospel to the world and not to convict the world.
