Whatever Happens

and give thanks ·whatever happens [in all circumstances; in everything]. That is ·what God wants [God’s will] for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 EXB

When we receive a present from a friend or family member, especially if it is something we have wished for or prayed for, our reaction is usually filled with joy and the words “thank you.”

These are words of praise or thankfulness for something positive we have experienced or encountered. We may struggle to apply the same expression in times of despair, frustration, injustice, or after an incident that has left us feeling faithless and hopeless.

The scriptures declare unequivocally that God’s intention for us; what He intends to be done in such circumstances, is that we are thankful in all things. This means that, whether we receive fantastic promotions at work, experience obstacles at work, or lose a job, whether we excelled in our examinations or not, or whether we have GHC 5 or GHC 50,000 in our account, we must be thankful to God.

Although not every season of life is pleasant, God’s Word instructs us to be thankful because He is always kind to us.

Even after being robbed and losing everything, some people continue to glorify God, as should be the case. Being thankful, however difficult, should not be based on what happens around us; instead, it should arise from our determination to believe in God, who is unwavering and eternal, and who holds all things, including you, in His hands.

Father, I appreciate You for being a Mighty God who is always in control. Please remind me to be thankful in all circumstances, knowing that You are orchestrating everything for my good as I walk in Your mission.
