Whatever You Desire

But if you live in life-union with me and if my words live powerfully within you — then you can ask whatever you desire and it will be done. [John 15:7 TPT]

There’s nothing unusual or difficult about ranting at your best friend, explaining your financial needs to your parents, or discussing your dreams, goals, and aspirations with your loved ones. Why is this the case? Because there is already an established relationship upon which we can build.

When explaining a concept to someone who already understands it, you don’t have to struggle as much as you would when discussing a private topic with someone who is unfamiliar with the subject. When there is no common ground to build on, communication is difficult. God demonstrates this principle in our verse for today.

The verse for today is frequently interpreted as a free meal ticket. However, upon closer inspection, you will notice that there is a caveat to asking God for anything and everything. The first clause instructs us to ‘remain in Him.’ This includes, but is not limited to, Bible reading and prayer. Maintaining constant contact with Him. To put it another way, establishing and maintaining a relationship.

The second is that ‘His word is still with us.’ This is demonstrated when we live our lives in accordance with His command. Once these two clauses are met, we are in alignment with God, and His will is reflected in our will. Then everything we ask for in prayer will be granted to us. Because whatever we request will be in accordance with His will! Communicating our heart’s desires to Him will not appear to be a difficult task. Why? Because your wants will become His wants! And we have no doubt that He will come to pass.

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for wanting to have a close relationship with me. I pray that my desire to always communicate with You never fades. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
