“It will rescue you from evil in disguise and from those who speak duplicities. Only wisdom can save you from the flattery of the promiscuous woman — she’s such a smooth-talking seductress!” [Proverbs‬ 2‬:12‬, 16‬ TPT‬‬]

When God provided salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ, His intention was not only to save us from our sins but also to provide us with wisdom — His Son, to stay free, as Galatians 5:1 calls us to do. Working on your salvation with fear and trembling means applying this wisdom, which is included in the package of salvation, to remain free. Not only are you saved, but you have also been provided with everything you need pertaining to life and godliness, enabling you to live your new life of freedom perpetually.

Wisdom for our daily Christian living is so important to God that, in His Word, He highlights the need to ask Him if we lack wisdom. He also emphasizes that He provides wisdom liberally without reproach. We must ask God for wisdom where we lack it because it takes a certain power to practically apply knowledge for it to become wisdom.

Proverbs 2:6 says that the Lord gives wisdom, and 1 Corinthians 1:24 describes Jesus as the wisdom of God. John 3:16 says God loves man so much that He gave His Son. Therefore, God gave us His wisdom through Jesus Christ to help us keep the gift of salvation intact. If a gift comes with an instructional manual, it is so that the recipient can utilize and enjoy the gift. Similarly, God has given us wisdom to live our lives well here on earth in anticipation of meeting Him and giving an account of how well we used the gift (salvation) He gave us by following the instructional manual (wisdom) that came with it.

Wisdom offers us escape and safety from all evils and perils. [It brings us] the ability to put knowledge into action to make our lives better. Particularly, in Proverbs 2:12 and 16, the writer gives specific situations from which wisdom saves us. Wisdom saves us from evil in disguise (wolves in sheep’s clothing). The devil is a master of disguise, and to escape our lion-like adversary in our daily lives requires wisdom. You are saved, but you also need wisdom to navigate the many temptations of this world.

Wisdom helps you to distinguish what is seemingly good in the moment from what is God’s will. It helps keep you sober and vigilant so that you focus on examining fruits rather than disguises.

Wisdom will save you from a lifetime of consequences resulting from your blunders. Therefore, incline your ear unto wisdom, and if you lack it, God invites you to ask Him freely!

Prayer: Thank You God, that You have not only provided us with the gift of a new life, but also the wisdom to live this life in accordance to Your will. Help us to incline our ears to wisdom, that it may be well with our souls. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
