Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God’s peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6–7 GNT

Have you ever prayed about a situation or a need yet remained anxious about the outcome? It’s very possible the reason for your anxiety is that your focus remained on the need or the situation instead of on your God. You may think that it’s impossible to pray and still be focused on anything but God, however, God knew that this could happen. That’s why the apostle Paul admonished us to counter anxiety by asking with a thankful heart.

Whenever we thank God and give Him glory for what He has done and for what He is about to do, our fixation shifts from our problems to our problem-solver. God can do all things. That’s an unchangeable fact, whether we acknowledge it or not. God is not ignorant of our anxiety, and He wants to keep our heart and mind safe in union with Christ Jesus. That is how we beat anxiety.

Whenever we give God the due recognition and praise Him when we are anxious, our assurance in His loving-kindness is stirred up. We can trust Him to work things out for our good. Are you looking for inner peace? Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done. It really is that simple!

Be encouraged to spend time in the Psalms, you will see how David often brought himself to a place of praise and thanksgiving when he felt things were not looking up. Do not hide your anxiety from God, share them with Him and praise Him for who He is.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your undying and unwavering love towards me. As I renew my mind and attitude towards You in prayer, offering my thanksgiving and praise to You in all circumstances, may I see Your face and may my heart rest in You alone, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
