‘Give us Jesus’: a litany for peace

By the Rev. Ken Williams

Leader: Holy God, like a fishing line that has become tangled in a hopeless mess, so is America’s social and political life. We need a master angler to help us untangle.

People: Give us Jesus.

Leader: We have become so focused on what we despise in the world that we no longer celebrate what we love. We need someone to remind us of love.

People: Give us Jesus.

Leader: In the debate over rights versus costs, we have lost sight of the meaning of quality of life for all. We need unified compassion.

People: Give us Jesus.

Leader: So fearful have we become that our trust is weak from disuse. We need strengthened trust.

People: Give us Jesus.

Leader: As evidence of our tangled lives, we have mixed political ideals with religious purpose. We need someone to help separate the two.

People: Give us Jesus.

Leader: There is nothing like a smooth cast into a placid pond on a beautiful morning. We need such peace.

All: Give us Jesus. Amen.
