The climate of Harlem’s mental health remains questionable.

In April, the New York Police Department’s ruled Judge Abdus-Salaam’s death as a suicide. This ruling sparked conversations all across the country, with many people not believing that the Harlem native killed herself. Though many refuse the NYPD’s ruling, others have gone ahead to promote the use of mental health services.

In Harlem, where Judge Abdus-Salaam lived, mental illnesses, lack of care and stigma, remain issues which affect the community. At a time in which more people are being diagnosed with mental illnesses, seeking care has become more important than ever.
