Bombs Or Bibles? The Only Solutions To The Middle East

Western politicians have argued for a long time about what the solution is to violence in the Middle East. Many on the Left have tried to blame Israel, and have said that we should follow a path of Pacifism. If civilized nations such as America and Israel were to disarm, then countries who throw gay people off buildings and “marry” off little girls would be sure to follow. After all, appeasement worked great in preventing World War II.

Those on the Right, on the other hand, have argued that the solution to the Middle East is to spread Democracy. This strategy assumes that the majority of Middle Eastern Muslims will vote for a civilized government. The problem is that previous Democratic elections as well as polls of Muslims from around the world tell a very different story. “Palestinians” (a word with a host of its own problems) have historically voted for the terrorist group Hamas in Democratic elections, and polls have shown that 60% of Jordanians have a positive view of Hamas.

The problem, to put it bluntly, is Islam. While Leftists and Muslims on TV run around saying that Islam is a religion of peace and screaming about “Islamophobia” (whatever the heck that is supposed to mean), history and the Islamic holy texts do not support the claim that Islam is (or ever has been) a religion of peace.

An essay on the history of Islam is well beyond the scope of this article, but suffice it to say Mohammed himself was a warmonger. He made war on those who would not convert to Islam, even though they had done no violence to him to provoke such attacks.

For a more in depth look at both historical and modern Islam, I recommend the video lectures by Dr. Nabeel Qureshi, a former Muslim who came to Christ.

How can one make peace with a culture that holds a religion of bloodshed as its ultimate core philosophy? How can the West make peace with Muslims when Mohammed himself disregarded treaties with NonMuslims, and said that it is okay to lie to further the cause of Islam?

The answer is that any lasting peace with an Islamic nation is impossible. Even if a nation should adopt some Westernized, revisionist version of “Islam” the fact remains that anyone with access to the source texts could always go back and see for himself that peace in this sense is not what the Koran stood for.

While the early parts of the Koran were peaceful, the later parts abrogated the former. Because Westerners are so ignorant of basic Islamic theology, Muslims routinely point to the earlier parts of the Koran often knowing full well that these were abrogated by later “revelation” in Mohammed’s life.

We ought not to be so culturally ignorant.

It’s clear that the West wants peace with the rest of the world. This seems to be one of the few things that the Left and the Right agree on (somehow). But Islam and Civilization cannot coexist. No matter what happens, Muslims will continue to attack NonMuslims until they convert to Islam, which is exactly what the Koran tells them to do.

Bombs or Bibles?

The West in general, and the United States in particular is going to have one of two options. We can continue to drop bombs on the Middle East or we can drop Bibles. The only third option is to lay down and die.

For the time being, we are going to have no choice but to resist Islamic terrorists with extreme force (and extreme force is fully and morally justified).

But in the long run, the only way to lasting peace is Jesus Christ.

For years I have wondered what would happen in the U.S. Air Force were to load translations of the Bible in Arabic, Farsi, English, and other languages spoken in North Africa and the Middle East and were to drop them with parachutes, along with dried food, and other gift items that people living in those regions would appreciate.

Consider the story of Khalil, a Muslim terrorist who converted to Christianity after reading the Bible.

Khalil’s conversion meant one less terrorist shooting at soldiers, women and children.

This man then went and told others about Christ.

God Going Before Us

In the Muslim World right now, there is a revival of Muslims coming to Christ, because they claim to have seen Jesus personally in a dream or a vision. That may not fit well into some people’s personal theology. Some might object, but this is exactly how the Apostle Paul came to Jesus Christ. Some might claim that dreams and visions are no more, but the Bible says that in the End Times young men will see visions and old men will dream dreams.

17 ‘And it shall be in the last days,’ God says,
‘That I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind;
And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
And your young men shall see visions,
And your old men shall dream dreams;
- Acts 2:17 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

That does not mean that every church service where people are babbling nonsense is “anointed” by the Holy Spirit. We still need to exercise discernment and not turn off our brains when the supernatural is involved. The stats vary, but I often see figures stating that greater than 50% of Muslims who come to Christ do so because they say they saw Jesus personally in a dream or a vision. This would make no sense in the context of Satanic deception, or some sort of mass hallucination.

Conversion or Conquest?

I hate to create a spoiler, but I recently read a SciFi story about one civilization that was at war with another. The protagonists won the war, not by military might, but by converting the enemy to their cause. Ideas were introduced to the enemy troops, and they spread exponentially through the enemy civilization. One enemy soldier converted two others which spread exponentially, and within a short time, the war was over.

I’ve also seen this same concept in other speculative fiction stories.

As a human being, I cannot convert another person to Christ. Only the Holy Spirit can do that. But I can share the Gospel with other people.

I plan to talk about this more in a future article, tentatively entitled Rethinking The Gospel And Evangelism, but since we live in a day and age in which we have the Internet and billions of people are gaining access to smartphones, tablets, computers, and other devices, every Christian in America can visit people around the world multiple times a day.

There are numerous organization spreading The Gospel and groups like AnswersinGenesis and ForTheNewChristianIntellectual are providing apologetics resources for free.

FaithComesByHearing has a free audio Bible app, which people can download for free in a multitude of languages. Not to mention BibleGateway which also has written and audio forms of multiple Bible translations.

Thanks to these ministries and organization, billions of people around the world now have access to the knowledge of God’s Word.

Dropping Bibles in parachutes across the countryside would still be great, but it pales in comparison to what we readily have access to.
