No More Pretending
--
Following what has been called the “most demagogic, outrageous, and divisive speech I have ever seen from an American president,” it seems fitting to wish you a happy Atlas Shrugged Day.
September 2nd is a day of significance in Ayn Rand’s dystopian novel. It marks the passage of another year in a collapsing world. Each time the date appears, it is a reminder: No social system based on looting can persist for long. The days of the tyrants are numbered.
On a not-entirely-unrelated note, today is the sixth birthday of For the New Christian Intellectual.
We created FTNCI to equip Christian thinkers in sound philosophy. For six years, we have been accomplishing that mission at a growing scale.
At FTNCI, we have always spoken of the growth of socialism and authoritarianism as a pressing emergency. When we started the project, many American pastors were unaware of the coming wave of authoritarianism. They see it now.
But pastors need to understand their own role in this disaster. Ideas have consequences. When pastors are neutral about moral matters, there are consequences. When pastors unthinkingly transmit collectivistic talking points, there are consequences.
We founded FTNCI because we saw that, by and large, American churches were allowing purported “Christians” to go on advocating socialism in the name of Christianity. Pastors were trying to make peace with false teachers. We knew what this error would cost.
By now, it should be clear that most churches in the country are in disarray. Most evangelical institutions have already been captured by non-Christians. There will be sweeping social consequences for this repeated failure of American pastors to keep a good house.
Socialism is not something to wink at. We are not going to “have a friendly conversation and then get drinks after.” The socialists are advocating for war. It is time to stop helping the socialist “Christians” pretend they are doing anything other than that.
It is time for a movement of Christians brave enough to name socialism as the evil that it is — and bold enough to call out the traitors and capitulators in their own denominations and churches.
No more pretending. The emergency is here.
