There are many people who claim to love God yet they do not obey His commandments. There are many who claim to be God’s children yet their lives testify otherwise. Saying you love God with words only does not mean much. If you love God keep His commandments.

We live in a world whereby out of people’s mouths come empty words and empty talks.

Many people seem to like talking yet they have no actions accompanying their words. There are others who think that just because they call themselves Christians or they attend churches on Sundays, they think that shows that they love God. It is hypocrisy to claim to love God if we do not obey His commandments.

When we know what the Word of God says yet we do not live our lives in accordance with the Word, then we are living in disobedience which shows that we do not love God. Our words that are not accompanied by obedience do not move God. You can claim all you want that you love God or that you are a Christian but if you are not a doer of God’s Word, then your words become meaningless. If you love God keep His commandments.

This is love, that we walk according to His commandments, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it. 2 John 1:6.

The same can be likened to human relationships; it is common to hear people tell one another that they love each other. However, those same people will go and do things that hurt the person they claim to love. The same people will talk to each other using degrading and abusive words, yet still claim they love each other. A person who claims to love you with words only without accompanying actions does not love you.

Empty words with no actions mean nothing.

If a person abuses you, mistreats you, shows no care towards you, is not available whenever you desire their help, does not take the time to know you, or leads you into sin, that person does not love you. Just because a person can make you feel good and is very charming, that does not mean that they love you.

Just because a person can feed your emotions with nice feelings does not make it love. Usually, that is manipulation, and such a person is selfish and whatever they do is usually done from a self-centered view. If a person is living in sin, if there is no fruit of the Holy Spirit manifesting in that person’s life, then they are not capable of loving any person.

Living in unrepentant sin is a sign that one does not love God. If you love God keep His commandments.

But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. James 1:22–25.

Those who love God are set apart from the world and do not conform to the patterns of the world. If God tells you to do something or stop doing something, your obedience to His Word is what shows that you really love Him. If you know something is sinful, then purpose to stop doing that thing; God will empower you to stop by His Spirit.

If you know God wants you to do something, then purpose to do it and God will likewise empower you to do that thing through His Spirit. If you know that there are certain behaviors, attitudes, actions, and words that you need to change in your life, ask God to help you make the necessary changes. If you love God keep His commandments.

Let your life be surrendered to Christ Jesus such that you are willing to give up all in order to follow Him.

You need to die to wanting to do things your own way and surrender to the will of God for you. If you love God then you are not at liberty to live life just the way you want, your life should be governed by God’s Word and led by His Spirit.

When you are actually living for God without compromising with the world, people will know that you are a child of God without you even uttering a word; your way of life becomes a testimony in itself.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors — not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. Romans 8:12–14.
