Overcome Anger

The Bible says, be angry and do not sin, do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil. We live in a world full of angry people. Many people have been wounded in life and have turned on to anger as a defense mechanism. Others say that being angry is in their nature and use that as an excuse to continue in their sinful ways. Be different; learn how to overcome anger.

Sadly, we also have Christians who are quick-tempered, full of hatred and bitterness in their hearts.

Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools. Ecclesiastes 7:9.

Anger is a sign of deeper heart issues in people. When a person has angry outbursts, it shows they lack self-control, it is a sign of impatience and shows that person is led by the flesh. Angry people have many internal wounds that are yet to be surrendered to God.

Reacting in anger ruins your witness for Christ. If you are a Christian and yet you still struggle with anger, you end up becoming a stumbling block to other people. Choose to overcome anger, God will help you.

The fruit of anger is evil. Nothing good comes out of uncontrolled anger and lashing out. Anger opens a doorway for the enemy into your life. The devil uses that door to come into your life and destroy you.

When you react in sinful anger, only the devil wins. Overcome anger.

In anger, people have caused destruction in their lives and in other people’s lives. Many people have said things in anger that they come to regret later. Others have done things in anger that have produced severe consequences in their own lives and in the lives of other people.

Many families and friendships have been destroyed because of anger.

A person who reacts in anger finds it difficult to make and keep friends. In anger, words are spoken and actions done that leave deep wounds in people’s hearts. An angry person stirs up conflict and ends up committing many sins. Do not make friendship with an angry person.

Do not be a person who gives full vent to your rage. Overcome anger. Pray for wisdom and learn how to hold back and respond to situations calmly. When a person provokes you, choose to respond with love. Stop arguing with people or trying to prove a point; that is usually rooted in pride.

Tit-for-tat behavior that is so common in the world is not of God, it comes from the flesh.

Stop engaging in carnal fights that only feed the flesh. Instead, choose to die to self and respond to all situations in a way that honors God. Learn from Jesus Christ, who, when reviled, did not revile in return, when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to God who judges righteously.

Pray for patience and understanding. The Bible says that it is better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city. Patience and self-control are great values to have in your life as a Christian.

When you abide in Christ, with time the fruit of the Holy Spirit starts manifesting in your life, part of which is patience and self-control. Self-control will help you to hold back and respond to situations in wisdom. Patience will help you to wait on God to intervene and stop taking matters into your own hands.

Instead of lashing out, pray for God to empower you to respond calmly and gently.

Gentleness is a strength, not a weakness. Do not be one of those people who are quickly provoked. In certain situations, it is better to stay quiet; do not engage in arguments and quarrels. Be wise and choose to overlook offenses. Overcome anger.

Do not allow anger to lead you to hell. If your heart is stained with the sin of anger, pray for Jesus Christ to wash you with His blood. Pray for God to heal those wounds in your heart that produce the evil fruit of anger and wrath in your life. Ask God to uproot all the roots of anger from your heart by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Blessings.
