‘They Paid Attention To Detail.’

We kept walking the streets of Barcelona asking ourselves; what really went wrong with us down in Africa? Why can’t we build great Cities, long lasting businesses like the ones we keep admiring? What did these guys do different to get to this level? Among other questions that kept popping up in our minds as we moved around the City.

After a long day’s tour, we sat down to agree that: Most of these European countries have been successful overtime because of their strategic thinkers who also made the greatest sacrifice of paying attention to detail.

The things around us looked simple, beautiful, organized and thorough at first look, some you don’t even notice. But have taken more time and effort to complete.

A great vision can quickly disappear in the fog of confusion If you cannot manage the process. Paying attention to detail is ‘WORK’. However, If we want to achieve these great Visions placed in our hearts and build businesses that will scale and last for ages, we have to aim at being thorough and accurate when accomplishing every task that contributes to bigger picture.

In the army, you can easily get someone killed if you overlook the details. As a city mayor, you can make decisions that can stagnate a city that has the potential to create millions of jobs. A business empire can collapse over-nite. One can miss out on a job opportunity by not checking the company website before the interview. The small things really matter too. The small steps are what get you to your destination.

Lessons:

Not everyone will pay attention to detail. It’s not everyone’s desire to become great. It’s human nature to survive, to be average and do what you do to get by.

“Always ask yourself why you do what you do. Be keen to observe how others do it.”
