When I Look At The Stars

When God Seems to Change

An analogy for the disorientated

What a child needs from a parent, and the nature of that relationship, varies based on level of development. Over time, what it means to be a mother or father changes.

In infancy, parents are ever present; they give more and more freedom until the child goes to college, at which time they may not even talk daily. Names tend to evolve from Mommy or Daddy to Mom or Dad. The changing nature of the relationship isn’t because the parent is changing but because the child is.

I agree philosophically that God is, must be, changeless and eternal. But that doesn’t mean human understanding and relationship with God (individually or collectively; teachings, names, theologies) must take only one form and never evolve.
