Graduate Trainees 2017/18: Hin Hin Wong

In my first week in the Chinese Works of Art Department, I settled in and was immediately assigned the translation of catalogue entries from Chinese to English for Chinese ceramics. I was well prepared for the task as I had learned about the art historical background of these ceramics in my Arts of China course. Without such historical understanding it would have been extremely tough! There are some very technical terms to translate; I do find it challenging, but it is a very enjoyable process. I am learning while translating! Also, I found the part of my thesis where I had to write cataloguing was very useful, it was so similar to what I am doing now and it’s only the first week of work!
