Awkwardly Social: The Social App Aimed & Solving Loneliness & Facilitating Real-Life Connections (a UX Case Study)

“Awkwardly Social”- The Social App That’s Redesigning Human Connection to Combat the Loneliness Epidemic

Overview

Awkwardly Social is a concept project designed in response to the world's largest epidemic: loneliness. As a listener on the Hapi app, I have listened to thousands of strangers share their struggles with making friends and forming meaningful connections. Their stories and struggles inspired me to design “Awkwardly Social” to encourage people to connect in real life through “The Power of Now” (reducing the time people spend overthinking) and form meaningful relationships that go beyond our digital devices.

Project Goal

To design an app that makes connecting in the real world easier by fostering human-to-human connections outside the app.

Before embarking on the project, I wanted to:
1. Understand the causes of loneliness
2. Uncover barriers to social connection
3. Propose a solution to promote social well-being and combat loneliness.
