Five ways to develop a healthy relationship between you and your child
Healthy relationships do not just happen by chance, instead they require you to nature them by putting in quality time and effort.
I believe that to develop a healthy relationship with each of your children if you have more than one, you need to take time out of your busy schedule to spend one to one time with them. This shows that you value them and that they are a priority in your life. This will help create trust and in most cases and make the child feel that they can open up to you. Spending one to one time with their child could involve simple activities such as taking a walk, going out for a coffee or even reading to them depending on their age.
We also need to take a keen interest in our children’s friendships, school and any other extra curriculum activities that they engage in. This is important to them just as you going to your work or place of business. When you take an interest in your children’s day to day life you will get to understand what their strengths and fears are. This gives you the parent a chance to celebrate their strengths and also the chance to help your child fight their fears and weaknesses with the confidence that you are there to support them.
I cannot emphasise enough the importance of family. We need to teach our children that family is everything and that they will be there for them in good and bad times. This is important because it will help create a sense of security that wherever they go they will always have people who love and care for them. A good way to do this, is to encourage family meals whenever possible, visit other members of your family especially the elderly and those close in age so that can form a bond.
Having fun and not being ashamed to be silly is a good way to show your children that they can have fun with you. This helps the children feel comfortable, loved and able to express how they feel. This also helps the parents feel that they can enjoy their children and vice versa. To do so dance to the songs on the radio your way, laugh to your own jokes and even do a bit of acting.
Children are a blessing and hence important to make sure that we make time to develop a healthy relationship with them to create a better them.
