At Chroma Golem, we’re obsessed with strategy games and how AI can introduce truly wild and wonderful emergent gameplay mechanics that weren’t possible just a few years ago.

But AI isn’t just for the players; we leverage AI to bolster our development process, allowing our small team to tackle bigger challenges, learn new skills, and keep the creative juices flowing.

If you’re a game dev (or want to learn game dev), you might be pleased to hear that we also make many of our AI tools free for everyone to use on our Discord server. I’d love to introduce you all to a big component of our AI toolkit: our Discord Sages — they provide advice, answer questions, generate code, and help answer any questions we have about game dev.

Meet the Unity Sage

Unity is a beast of an engine, and it can throw some wicked curveballs your way, like that pesky “NullReferenceException” error we’ve all seen or those framerate drops that just won’t quit. That’s where our Unity Sage comes in — this AI-powered brainiac has your back, offering up solutions and insights to tackle Unity’s trickiest challenges. From physics conundrums to shader snafus, Unity Sage is your go-to for all things Unity.

Godot Sage at Your Service

If you’ve ever found yourself scratching your head over GDScript or tangling with Godot’s nested node system, our Godot Sage is here to light the way. Tailored to address the unique quirks of the Godot engine, this Sage is armed with the know-how to help you navigate the Godot landscape and come out on top. So whether you’re grappling with visual scripting or trying to get that pixel-perfect animation just right, Godot Sage has got your back.

Inside a thread created by the Godot Sage

Unreal Wisdom from the Unreal Sage

And let’s not forget about the behemoth that is Unreal Engine. Blueprints, C++, and all those shiny graphics can be overwhelming, to say the least. That’s where our Unreal Sage steps in. With a deep understanding of Unreal’s intricacies, this Sage is your secret weapon for conquering Unreal-specific challenges and unleashing the full power of this epic engine.

How to Chat with the Sages

Ready to give it a whirl? Join our Discord server, hop into the #sage-help channel, and just shout out any question to the Sage you need (make sure you @mention them!). They’ll create a cozy little thread just for you and you can dive into your game dev quandaries together, ask follow-up questions, generate or refine code, and more. And don’t worry, there’s no such thing as too many questions.

The Sages are here to help guide you at every step of your game development journey.

Conclusion and Next Steps

We started with three Sages, but we’d be happy to add more over time if there is interest in other engines or topics. If you want to request another Sage for your own game dev work, just hit us up on Discord; we’re always happy to build and try out new tools!

Also, we’re actively looking for feedback on how these sages perform on questions about the latest updates to each engine (specifically Unity 2022 and Godot 4). We plan on fine-tuning them on updates to each engine moving forward to ensure they always have the latest information, but we want to better understand how they’re performing now so we can measure how they improve later.

All that said, I hope you enjoy the Sages! They’ve been a huge help to us and I hope they’re just as valuable to others out there looking for a little extra help in their game dev journey.

We started Chroma Golem to explore new possibilities of emergent mechanics in gaming using the latest AI technologies. We’re still in our early stages of AI experiments and demos in gaming and we’d love to have you along for the ride. If you’re a game dev or interested in AI in games, we invite you to join our Discord community for AI news, demos, feedback, and more.
