Childhood summers for me were that weird time of year when time paused and we hid from the heat. Christmas, water fights, ice cream, end of school year, end of calendar year, no routine, staying home reading books, eating Christmas leftovers. Until around February when you have to start wearing shoes again.

Now, in my adult life, the hottest time of year falls around Easter and Cambodian New year. So its all about hiding from the heat and hiding from routine while eating mangoes and ice cream and staying home reading books and having water fights. It’s a weird time of year when everything is so hot it feels like time is paused.
