Why I’ve Fallen In-Love with Ugly Tomatoes
They lied, pretty isn’t better
This year we had our first try at gardening and while, yes, some things died under our uneducated care, our tomatoes thrived like nobodies business!
We were able to gain access to incredibly high-quality fresh compost and heirloom tomato starts — this combo, plus plenty of watering and tender-loving care — provided us with soooooo many tomatoes this year!
And one thing I learned this summer is that the pleasure of eating a tomatoes has nothing to do with how pretty it is. honest.
We’ve been growing these giant heirloom tomatoes that are amazing, to eat that is.
To look at, well, I wouldn’t pay money for them at the farmer’s market or even the regular market. They look scared, stretched, sometimes bruised.
But…
They are simply incredible.
Slice one up, sprinkle with a wee bit of kosher salt and close your eyes because you are about to be transported to tomato heaven.
Really, they are that good.
They literally melt in my mouth, like butter or supremely ultra-rich mashed yukon gold potatoes… It is too much… It is so goooood.
