Southeastern’s Pennington Recreation Center has been a place in Hammond for the student body as well as faculty to enjoy and have a good workout; unfortunately, not everyone thinks it’s that enjoyable.

There are individuals on the campus that seem to have not one issue with how things are run at the Pennington Center. On the other hand, there are a good number of students that have some suggestions on how it can improve.

“It’s pretty fun for me especially when they have the courts in here for us to hoop, it helps keep me in shape, “ stated Marquise Williams.

Williams is a student here at Southeastern who spends a good majority of his time playing basketball in the rec.

There were other people who seem to enjoy how things are run in the rec center such as, Michael Spurlock, assistant football coach here at Southeastern.

“Man I just try to get a lift in and just gone about my business, I really don’t do much in this place but pump some iron, “ said Spurlock.

It seems faculty members like Spurlock don’t really have issues from the rec. Issues with the rec and the facilities are adequate for his needs.

However there are others who do not agree that the rec is without its problems.

“I have fun in the rec and shoot some ball in there but I honestly think it can be a little more diverse. They should have things like spin class or volleyball to get everyone involved,” added Devin Whitin.

Whitin is another student who likes spending a good majority of his time in the rec center. He explains it to be a place with less diversity.

It some people who as you can, that care on how people in the school interact with each other.

“I like it during the week it’s always tons of people in there maybe because they close til later but, they got to change those times on the weekend because it gets a little lame,” added Jaysen Robinson

Jaysen Robinson is a student athlete from Georgia who attends this school as well. He said he wants the times on the weekend the rec is open to change.

Usually, weekend hours are from 3-6 p.m. To him, this isn’t enough time to enjoy the rec.

Clearly feelings are mixed on how the Pennington Rec Center is operated.

Will we see change in the future for the ones who demand? Or will it stay the same? Only time will tell if a change will take place in the near future.
