This article begins with a conversation between Reverend Andy (K. Andrew Law) and myself. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Reverend Andy has removed himself from the discussion and left my most recent message unanswered.

Our discussion dealt with Genesis 6:4.

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days — and also afterward — when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. (Gen 6:4 NIV)

My position is that these sons of God are angels. And that the Thomasine Gnostics, who are responsible for the creation of the synoptic Gospels, the Gospel of Thomas, and various other Biblical and extra-Biblical texts; understand that Jesus himself is a Nephilim, though one of a different, more refined quality than the usual Nephilim.

Reverend Andy’s response:

No, no, no.
God’s dudes (we x+y genes humans) are specifically NOT Gods in any way.
This is made clear in Genesis before the fall when God bars humans from the tree of life (immortality) so we will not “become as one of us,” meaning gods.
