There are two genealogies of Jesus, one in Matthew and one in Luke.

Genealogy of Jesus from Matthew

The version from Matthew has its interesting features. For instance, the list is intentionally broken into three sections, two of fourteen names and one of thirteen. There is also Matthew’s mention of the mothers in four specific instances. Still, this article is going to focus on the somewhat longer list from Luke.

Genealogy of Jesus from Luke

Much of Luke’s additional length is due to his genealogy going all the way back to Adam, the son of God. This accounts for twenty-one extra names, but still leaves Luke with fifty-four entries to Matthew’s forty-one.
