This week U.S. automaker Ford gave the press a peak into what’s on the horizon by unveiling a sleek new concept for an all-electric version of it’s flagship muscle-car. The Ford Mustang, once considered a symbol of American automotive ingenuity, has joined a growing list of bloated-gas-guzzling-loud-super-cars which reflect more the hubris of the wasteful decades of environmentally unsound practices since the industrial revolution, than anything inspiring. It seems Ford is taking a major step toward re-brand itself as an forward-thinking automotive solutions provider. In an increasingly crowded field of upstart/trendy electric car companies (along with [current] the current trendsetter Tesla), being seen in the eyes of young influencers as an aging, fossil-fuel spewing dinosaur corporate entity, won’t keep Ford going another 119 years. Enter the Ford Mustang Lithium.

Resembling a cross between a pit-bull and that android from Star Trek Discovery, this muscle car is more than just aesthetics. This concept boasts about 900 horsepower, more than double what you’re getting in the 2020 consumer gasoline version at your local dealer come January. Yes, 900 HP! (No, you can’t buy this one).

Unlike most electric cars, the Mustang Lithium has a highly specialized 6-speed manual transmission. This heavy-duty behemoth allows it’s 800 volt power system to haul with a remarkable 1000 foot-pounds of torque. That is some serious pulling power!

Many drivers are hesitant to embrace the new. Understandably they fear the accouterments they’ve gone accustomed to will be stripped away at the cost of Millennials desire for speed and convenience. Ford thought ahead when they designed the transmission as it aims to give experienced drivers and enthusiasts alike that authentic muscle-car feel and genuine control.

Internally the Mustang Lithium contains all the modern conveniences you’d expect in a 2020 ride of that caliber. The electric ride was created in collaboration with a truck/car parts company called Webasto, so you know this thing was customized inside and out!

While you can’t buy this model, you’re not top far off from having a Mustang inspired vehicle in your driveway very soon. Ford created the Mustang Lithium to promote a new all-electric SUV its launching November 17, 2020. This model boasts a Mustang inspired engine and Ford is making some bold claims that has car enthusiasts everywhere drooling!
