CICT Building

Staring at a Computer Screen, Building a Future

Fueled by instant ramen and fueled by even more passion, late nights are a badge of honor for CICTzens at West Visayas State University. Here, we dive headfirst into the thrilling world of technology, a world that keeps us up at night not just because of deadlines, but because of the excitement of what we’re creating.

In the College of Information and Communications Technology, we delve into the challenges, rewards, and the amazing people you’ll meet along the way. Get ready to experience what it takes to be a CICTzen and explore the endless opportunities this program offers.

Hitting the Ground Running

The life of a CICTzen begins with class. Be prepared to jump right in, and coming to class prepared is key. Don’t be surprised if you see a few classmates running a bit late — we’re all juggling multiple projects! CICT covers a vast amount of ground, so be ready to dedicate time outside of class to truly master the skills.

Your professors are there to guide you through the basics and equip you with the knowledge you need to succeed. They’ll answer your questions and help you understand the course content. But remember, honing your research skills is crucial. Don’t hesitate to leverage online resources like W3Schools, Codecademy, and freeCodeCamp. Additionally, CICT upperclassmen are a goldmine of tips and tricks. Find a study group with like-minded individuals who will motivate you to stay focused.

Building Your Network and Your Skills

The College actively encourages student organizations. Joining one is a fantastic way to build your network, make new friends, and develop valuable skills that will benefit you in your future career. It’s also a great strategy for time management. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through social media, you can be learning and collaborating with peers who share your passion.

These organizations become your support system. The people you meet will be your companions through challenging projects and late-night coding sessions. They’ll celebrate your successes and be there to pick you up when you face setbacks.

The Grind and the Glory

There will be times, especially during heavy project periods, where you might ask yourself, “Do I have time for anything else?” The answer is, it will take dedication and focus. CICT requires a deep understanding of the concepts, and falling behind can happen. But remember, everyone experiences moments of self-doubt. Focus on your own progress, and don’t compare yourself to others.

Procrastination is your biggest enemy. The workload might seem manageable at first, but deadlines have a way of sneaking up on you. Stay on top of your tasks and avoid distractions. There’s nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of a looming deadline to focus the mind!

The Camaraderie that Makes it Worthwhile

Sure, there will be all-nighters fueled by coffee, and yes, we might be a little guilty of prioritizing deadlines over sleep sometimes. But hey, that’s where the best memories are made. The late-night study sessions, the scramble to meet deadlines, and the camaraderie that forms through shared struggles — these are the moments you’ll look back on and fondly remember.

Beyond the Sleepless Nights

Being a CICTzen isn’t for everyone. It takes dedication, resilience, and a passion for technology. But the rewards are immeasurable. You’ll graduate with a coveted skillset, forge lifelong friendships, and be prepared to take on the ever-evolving tech industry. It’s challenging, it’s exhilarating, and it’s an experience you won’t forget. Are you ready to become a CICTzen?
