2. Game Elements

Characters

With more than 140 champions, you’ll find the perfect match for your playstyle. Master one, or master them all. You may be able to choose one character in every game start. Game starts character may include the tank, support, marksman, fighter, assassin , and mage.

Environment

The Summoner’s Rift is the most commonly used Field of Justice.

The map was given a graphical and technical update on May 23rd, 2012 and remade from scratch on November 12th, 2014.

The objective of Summoner’s Rift is simple — destroy the enemy nexus. In order to do this, champions must traverse down one of three different paths (or lanes) in order to attack their enemy at their weakest points they can exploit. Both teams have their lanes defended by numerous turrets; each turret grows in strength the closer it gets to its respective nexus and each turret must be eliminated in order to gain access to the next turret in that lane. Cooperating with fellow summoners is an absolute requirement for success, as it is easy for a champion to find themselves ambushed by enemies in the lanes of the Rift.

Items/Collectibles

An item is a modular enhancement that the player can equip ingame, usually purchasable for gold. Items are often fashioned into objects from Runeterran lore, otherwise following the theme of the game’s background setting.

Obtaining items:

Players can purchase items from the shop (remotely through Ornn’s Living Forge). The player’s inventory can hold up to 6 items and 1 trinket at a time, making the selection of items an important factor in achieving victory. The inventory also includes the Recall button, most likely for streamlining essential functions on-screen.

Quality Tiers

Items are primarily distinguished in tiers of quality. This excludes Consumables and Boots.

Starter

This item is designed as an ideal starting item, usually with some form of sustain.

Basic

This item provides some meager benefit.

Epic

This item provides a special effect and/or passive benefit. Some items are based on the Legendary item that they are later built into.

Legendary

This item provides a special effect and substantial passive benefits.

Mythic

This item provides substantial passive benefits along with a powerful special effect. Only one item of this tier can be carried at a time.

Abilities

Every champion kit (with some exceptions) follows the same basic structure: an innate with no ranks, three basic abilities with five ranks each, and an ultimate with three ranks.

INNATE: Available as soon as the game starts, innate abilities passively affects a champion for the entire match but cannot be ranked up at will, often scaling with their owners’ level to compensate.

Innates sometimes feature a unique mechanic that helps define a champion’s playstyle.

BASIC ABILITIES: Available from level 1 and controlled by the

keys, basic abilities are learned over the course of the game by ranking them up after every level-up, the earliest for maxing one out being level 9 (current rank cannot be higher than half the champion’s rounded out level, limiting each new rank for the same ability to every odd, single-digit level)

ULTIMATE: Available from level 6 (can only be ranked up again at levels 11 and 16 at the least) and controlled by the

key, ultimates are considered a champion’s strongest, most characteristic, and most game-changing ability.

Ultimate abilities feature a HUD indicator attached to the champion’s portrait (can be set to appear on top of the minimap or on the left of the screen) letting allies know the state of each other’s ultimate cooldowns (black if not learned yet, gray when on cooldown, green when ready to cast)

PSEUDO-ULTIMATE: Is classified as ultimate for ultimate-interaction abilities or items. Such as

3. Game UI

The picture shown in this chapter presents user interface of an ADC (Attack Damage Carrier) champion. The UI’s layout is the same for all champions, varying only in ablilities icons and statistics. Player’s achievements and time played are displayed at the top-right corner of the screen. There is also information about FPS and ping. At the bottom-right corner there is the minimap, which shows current situation on the arena. The grey area indicates the Fog of War. champion’s abilities and Summoner Spells are in the centre of the screen, at the bottom. The level of an ablility rises after clicking small plus icon next to the ability. At the bottom-left corner of the screen there is a champion’s icon, his current level, experience bar, and a list of items in inventory. Below that, there is the gold meter, which additionally serves as the store access.
