In a world where change is constant, new inventions and broader use of technology paired with science have made a revolutionary quantum leap. This offspring of knowledge gave birth to mobile phones, tabs, PCs, Mac books and a lot more cool tech. Have you even wondered why people have been so fond of these things? One main reason for this obviously is the birth of video games, around 1970’s to be exact. Although, video games have received a lot of demarcations from the society which led us to question if there’re still any other positive effects these video games bring to its users. Luckily, THERE ARE.

Strategy based games just like our Chess,

improves not only the cognitive flexibility but also improves our concentration and enhances our problem solving skills and creativity. Young children who spend time playing strategy-based video games improve their intellectual levels. Researchers who have studied young children who play games found out that there is a significant link between playing video games and the mental health, social and cognitive skills of young children. This would explain why more and more younger children are clever enough to operate a gaming device.

Strategy-based video games has been one of my favorite genre of video games. I find not only satisfaction from playing this type of games but also I improve my brain agility.

One example is Carrot Fantasy 2. It is a standard tower defense game, filled with cute monsters racing to eat your lovely carrot. Simple as the job sounds, one have to defend the carrot using the towers which one will have to provide.

This was created and developed by Glu Games Inc. Ever since I have started playing this game, from my first mistake, I cant help but play it again over and over again. I also appreciate the art style and the different game themes will hinder you from quitting the game.

Another popular real time strategy video game is StarCraft which was created by Blizzard Entertainment.

It centers on the galactic struggle for dominance among different species in a distant part of the Milky Way galaxy known as the Koprulu Sector. Not to mention the awesome cosmic experience whenever you play this game.

I have tried few of the game development tools such Unreal Game Engine and Godot and how I wish I could have had the skills and all to create a game such as what I have been playing. Our subject have made me experience first hand the difficulty of developing video games that would really catch the interest of most people. Game Development requires skills, vast imagination and above all patience. These game engines have given us legit feeling on how game developers create their games. If strategy games have made the players enhance their mental health how much more benefit could it give to the game developers themselves.

Have you tried playing strategy-based video games? Exercise your mind. Share your experience!
