Start again fresh

Ever worked so hard for so long that you can’t complete the simplest task? Has your mind ever just gone numb? At the end of the day, your brain is fried. You. Are. Done.

It’s tempting to press on. Finish the job, you think.

Leave it ’til tomorrow.

This goes against our nature. We are hard workers. We are hustlers. We stay until the job is finished. But hear me out…

This isn’t about quitting. Quite the opposite, in fact. You are at your best when you are fresh. If you are coming back to the same office in the morning, then leave it ’til the morning.

Sleep on it…ever heard that one?

There’s a reason for this famous saying. It works. Come back to the same task the next morning and you’ll find that everything was easier than you remembered. You’ll wonder why you made such a big deal out of something so small. You’ll make fewer mistakes. Your work will be quality.

This applies to many situations:

Late night argument with spouse? Leave it ’til tomorrow (especially if there’s been drinking)

Boss wants an answer from you right before you leave for the day? Ask if you can sleep on it. They should respect an employee who likes to think things through

Debating an evening workout? Wake up fresh and energized instead. Go out and run with the sunrise.

Offered a job? Don’t blurt out “yes!!” Say you appreciate the offer and read over the offer letter overnight. Come back in the morning with an informed decision.

“Leaving it ’til the morning” requires self restraint and self control. Practice patience and reap the benefits. Do things on your terms (as much as you can.) People will notice, and they will respect you for it.
