Oh, behave — this one is Austin Powers smooth…

My Rating: 8/10

Wrapper: Cuba

Binder: Cuba

Filler: Cuba

Ring Gauge: 48

Size: Perfecto (also known as a Británicas Extra within the factories of Cuba)

I recently subscribed to MANUH Cigars out of the UK (worth checking out). This lovely stick came in September’s package, and my god — what a smooth smoke.

Only 6,000 boxes of ten cigars were produced, and they are exclusively available in the UK (however thanks to MANUH Cigars, I enjoyed this smoke in Canada). Measuring 5 3/8” (137mm) x 48 ring gauge, it is a rare size. Although a figurado, the correct name for this cigar is a perfecto.

Note: there are no other perfectos in any brand made in Cuba today. This shape has only ever been seen on four previous releases. Only very skilled torcedoras are entrusted to make the Cuban perfecto.

Taste Profile

Let’s get into the fun stuff …

First off, from the moment I lit this cigar the draw was incredible — smooth and the smoke very full. I immediately got that woody taste that you often get from premium Cuban cigars. There was also a bit of sweetness and creaminess that came through which offered beautiful balance.

My only complaint is the poor taste that surfaced toward the end of the cigar, which I found to be odd. I’ve experienced this before on cheaper smokes; however, I did not expect this to occur with such a high quality Habano.

Some cigar enthusiasts have suggested that age might do this cigar some good, offering increased balance throughout the smoke… I obviously did not have the patience to let this one sit.

Overall, 8/10 with many positives.

Interesting fact: this cigar was originally scheduled to be released in 2017. The three year delay has has resulted in some built up anticipation. Since its release, it seems to have caught the eye of cigar collectors…

A short history about the brand — La Gloria Cubana

La Gloria Cubana (The Glory of Cuba) is known to make medium-bodied cigars.

The company was founded in 1885, and then in 1905 the brand was bought by an entrepreneur whose company, J. F. Rocha S.A., had just founded Bolivar (another one of my favourite cigar brands).

In 1954 it was sold to Cifuentes y Cía, which owned Partagas, and has been part of the Partagas family ever since.

Anyways, enjoy the rest of your week and stay healthy (yes, I know that seems like odd thing to write in a blog post on cigar smoking, but as I’ve said before: Cigars are not “like cigarettes”!)

Thank you for reading.
