AS you (or may not) be aware, I am a member of the Public Interest Registry (PIR) Advisory Council. PIR manages .ORG and the funds raised by the registry are passed on to the Internet Society. PICISOC is the Pacific Islands Chapter of the Internet Society (ISOC). All of the Chapters benefit from Internet Society grants that are generated by PIR.
The Advisory Council met with some members of the PIR Council and staff at the end of June where PIR reported on its journey and its achievements. There are some new faces on the Advisory Council this year to supplement the few “old” ones who remain from the last council. We will meet the new team in Washington in October at the .ORG Impact Awards.
“.Org is the original domain extension created for all types of organisations. Established in 1984 as one of the Internet’s original top-level domains, and managed by PIR since 2003, the .ORG community has long been associated with non-profits, and it is home to many.”
“PIR is mission-based. Its proceeds aid ISOC’s work on making the Internet available and accessible to all people in the world, and to keeping it as a trused and secure resource. In fact, for every dollar that comes to PIR, more than 50c goes directly to ISOC to fund its global work and mission.”
