PIR Advisory Committee and some of the Board, including Narelle Clark, on the phone from Australia.

The Board and the Advisory Council (AC) of the Public Interest Registry (PIR) have just completed their meetings in Washington to discuss the future of Dot Org. This was my first joint meeting with the Board to discuss the future direction of the PIR and more specifically the future role of the AC.

The PIR is a registry that sells and markets the domains (.Org, .Ngo and .Ong) to provide funds for Chapter and ISOC activities sponsored by the Internet Society . The Advisory Council advises the Board on how best to do this.

During our discussions, the Board informed the AC that they have decided to re-focus on Dot Org. While they were pleased with the take-up of .ngo and .ong, these did not quite meet the Board’s business goals nor its financial expectations.

The first activity was looking at defining what characterised the Dot Org brand and future strategies that the Advisory Council might suggest for the Board to take up in their future decisions relating to the rebranding of Dot Org to address attributes and identity as well as pricing and future partnerships.

Developing a plan to rebrand Dot ORG. Board and Advisory Council in action :)
