When scope increases in a project people often confuse whether it is an expansion due to scope creep or scope discovery.

Here’s how you tell the difference:

Does the new information make the scope more clear? If so, then you have a case of scope discovery.

Does the new information make the scope more focused? If so, then you have a case of scope discovery.

Does the new information make the scope less confusing or vague? If so, then you have a case of scope discovery.

Here’s a video for the project managers and implementors out there. Enjoy.
