Market Research

Our movie idea fits well with the theme of gender and film. We chose the three girls in the movie specifically to represent many different types of women who are all empowered and capable of solving a murder crime. We were inspired by the Bechdel Test that was talked about in class and we wanted to incorporate it into our movie. The movie is designed to not have a major male lead.

Being at a liberal arts school we think this movie would appeal to many different types of people. Many different types of people are represented in the movie in hopes of bringing different viewers who can all relate to the movie in some way.

Major Scenes/Characters

Helen is a varsity swimmer at her college. She most of her time at the pool or at the gym. One day she gets to the pool and finds a body floating in the pool. Upon closer evaluation, the sees that the person has been murdered with three bullet wounds.

Megan is an extremely hard working student at the university, is a member of the national honors society, and tutors on her free time. Most of her days are spent in the library. The same day that Helen found the person floating in the pool, Megan was in the library. When she got to her usual spot, she found a body. It was murdered with three bullet wounds as well.

Corrie is a very mindful student at the university. She practices meditation and Buddhism. Every morning she goes into the basement of one of the buildings and enters the meditation room. However, upon entering she finds a dead body. The dead body was murdered with three bullet wounds. This was the same time that Helen and Megan had stumbled upon the dead bodies as well.

The police get involved and conclude that the three bodies were murdered by the same person. This starts the search for the serial killer. The school will close unless the murderer is found. The three girls, who are best friends, discover that the murders are related to them and take it upon themselves to find the serial killer. The girls put the pieces together and eventually find out that the President is the serial killer.

Discussion of Themes

One major theme is the empowerment of women. The movie is centered around female leads who are taking it upon themselves to solve a murder mystery. Most police officers are males, so the girls solving the crime is very out of the ordinary and gender equalizing.
